Here is how you write the multiples of \(10\) up to \(100.\)

\(10\) ten

\(20\) twenty

\(30\) thirty

\(40\) forty

\(50\) fifty

\(60\) sixty

\(70\) seventy

\(80\) eighty

\(90\) ninety

\(100\) one hundred

For numbers \(20\) or higher, the name of the number is the name of then tens followed by a dash and the name of the ones.


Example: Write the name of \(45\) in words.

There is a \(4\) in the tens place. It represents \(40\). There is a \(5\) in the ones place. So, the name of the number in words is forty-five.


Example: Write the name of \(77\) in words.

There is a \(7\) in the tens place. It represents \(70.\) There is also a \(7\) in the ones place. So, the name of the number in words is seventy-seven.

For numbers in the hundreds, the name of the number is one hundred followed by the number in the tens and ones places.


Example: Write the name of \(189\) in words.

There is a \(1\) in the hundreds place. It represents \(100\) and is written one hundred.

There is an \(8\) in the tens place. It represents \(80\) and is written eighty.

There is a \(9\) in the ones place. It is written nine.

The number \(189\) is written one hundred eight-nine.


Example: Write the name of \(112\) in words.

There is a \(1\) in the hundreds place. It represents \(100\) and is written one hundred.

There is an \(1\) in the tens place. It represent \(10.\) Since it is less than \(20,\) we need to look at the ones place.

There is a \(12\) in the tens and ones places. It is written twelve.

The number \(112\) is written one hundred twelve.
